Lingerie size guide: how to take your measurements accurately?

prescilia by

We all know it: from one brand to another, sizes can vary greatly. It can be frustrating and make us hesitate. For that, there's no secret: you need to get out the tape measure!

Don't worry, it's much simpler than it seems. Here's how to find your ideal size in just a few minutes.

The necessary equipment

  • A flexible tape measure (or a string and a ruler).
  • A mirror to check that the tape is horizontal.
  • The ideal outfit: Wear a thin, non-padded bra. It helps to keep the breast "straight" and in its natural position, which is essential for taking accurate and reliable measurements.

For bras and bralettes

To find your top size, you need two precise measurements.

1. Bust measurement
This determines your cup depth.

  • Place the tape measure flat, at the level of the nipple (where the bust is fullest).
  • Check in the mirror that the tape is horizontal and straight across your back.
  • Exhale normally and note the number without tightening the tape.

2. Underbust measurement
This is the most important measurement for the support and comfort of your back band.

  • Place the tape measure just below your bust, where the elastic of your lingerie usually sits.
  • The tape should be snug against the body, while still allowing you to breathe comfortably.
  • This measurement defines whether you are an 85, 90, 95...

For bottoms (panties, thongs, Brazilian briefs)

For your bottoms to flatter your figure without digging into your skin, we will take two reference measurements.

3. Waist measurement

  • Place the tape measure at the narrowest part of your waist (the slimmest part of your torso, usually just above the navel).
  • Stand up straight, exhale naturally, and take the measurement without sucking in your stomach.

4. Hip measurement

  • Place the tape measure at the widest part of your hips and buttocks.
  • Keep your feet together to ensure the most accurate measurement possible.
  • Note this number to find your equivalent in S, M, L or XL.
